Frameless Glass Balustrade

Our Posiglaze frameless glass balustrade system consists of everything you need for a frameless glass balustrade, excluding the glass (ordered from us, but separately).

Kit includes:

• 3m length of predrilled aluminium U-channel (base or side fixed)
• Top seal strip/beading, 2 off @ 3m
• Clamp kit with clamps, clamp bars, bolts and gasket, to suit your glass thickness (12-21.5mm)
• Spanner (10mm, to suit clamp kit)

We supply the aluminium U-channel predrilled at 200mm centres. It has a brushed stainless steel effect finish as standard, or you can order it in a new black finish! (please specify in order notes).

NEW – We can now offer the Posiglaze channel and other components in a standard black finish for the same cost! Please specify in the order notes if required.

With its honeycomb design, the U-channel is lightweight (25kg per 3m), but still achieves up to 1.5kN loading and complies with BS 6180. It is fixed and adjusted using the clamp kits and spanner.

Glass type/thickness

The most important thing to recognise is that if no top rail is in place then toughened laminated glass must be used. Building Regulations require a height of 1100mm for external balustrades and 900mm for internal (although this can feel a little low to some people).

For the glass height, you need to deduct the thickness of the base U-channel – see typical deductions below;

With top rail
For an internal balustrade with no fall factor, 12mm glass is suitable.
For internal use, with a fall factor and with a top rail 15mm toughened is suitable (0.74kN loading).
Where a 1.5kN loading is required, 19mm toughened glass should be use.

No top rail
For an internal balustrade with no top rail, 17.5mm toughened laminated glass should be used.
An external balustrade should use 21.5mm toughened laminated.
